The National Children’s Food Festival is an annual celebration that both adults and children join in fun activities related to food. The week-long celebration helps teach children about many different things including where food comes from, how food is grown and prepared. Over the week practitioners are encouraged to plan activities relating to food, these activities can be based around;

  • Cooking and baking
  • Food tasting sessions
  • Outings to local farms, supermarkets or bakeries
  • Art Activities recreating or using food
  • Messy play
  • Parent partnership sessions including giving advice or inviting them into the setting to join in
  • Bake-offs and competitions
  • Planting and Growing

Each year the National Children’s Food Festival is based around a particular theme, this year the bread challenge is being reintroduced as it was such as such in 2014! Sign up now to receive your free welcome pack and find out how to get involved. We have also created 4 story packs that can be used to promote and support you in celebrating Food Festival week with us. The four-story packs will be based around a favourite, food-themed children’s story. The available story resources packs are;

  • Handa’s Surprise
  • The Little Red Hen
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • The Enormous Turnip
