Top tips for helping improve your childcare teams performance

ways to improve your teams performance

It is important that management monitor and evaluate the team’s individual performances on a regular basis, as this will  contribute to a successful nursery. What systems do you have in place in your childcare setting to help improve the performance of your team?

Why not try these few suggestions;

Observe them during their practice;

Observing practitioners in action will enable you to see if they are doing their job right. Most childcare settings use a proforma to make notes on outlining practitioners strengths and weaknesses. Carrying out these observations regularly will both help the practitioners practice and reassure managers that individuals are meeting their responsibilities. Ofsted is very keen to see how managers are monitoring and evaluating practitioners practice and how this is fed into practitioners supervisions and appraisals and finally the settings overall improvement plan.

Regular supervisions;

There is no set time as to when supervisons should take place, yes it is good practice to set a date to slot one in, however if issues arise in the meantime then conduct a supervision straightaway . Supervisions are a time to discuss employees performance, ask them how they are feeling and talk about areas that they may be struggling in. Managers/leaders should expand on points discussed in supervisions, giving practitioners a deeper understanding of how to improve their practice.

Identifying further training

It is good practice that practitioners attend refresher training in certain areas or additional training when required. Managers should be aware of practitioners individual training needs. Discussions during supervisions will identify individuals training needs and any evidence from observations will also contribute.

Building practitioners self-esteem and self-confidence

Finding ways to help practitioners to develop their self-esteem and self-confidence will lead to them feeling positive, becoming more motivated. Motiving a team is essential to individuals performance, managers need to tune into practitioners and praise them for what they are doing. Running a childcare setting is a busy job but by finding them few minutes to praise your team can make all the difference in their performance.

Working together as a Team
