All settings that are included on the list will have been Ofsted inspected between September 1, 2014, and August 31, 2015. The report must have been published before November 1, 2015.

Ofsted released the list of nurseries and children centres that have been graded ‘outstanding’ in the country for the year 2014/2015, with a 32 being found in the North East region.

There are twelve outstanding nurseries in Northumberland and ten in Durham, while Newcastle and North Tyneside three apiece. There are two in Sunderland and one each in Gateshead and South Tyneside.

Among them is Montagu Community Nursery in Newcastle. Manager Wendy Pratt put the nursery’s success down to motivated, experienced staff committed to understanding children’s individual needs.

She added: “Working in partnership with parents and carers, we provide children with exciting learning opportunities through play, that support them to achieve their full potential and develop their ambitions for the future.

At another outstanding centre, Free Spirits Nursery were so pleased with the rating that they threw a special Disney-themed party.

Nicky said: “What makes Free Spirits special is our dedicated and caring staff. The diversity of children in Free Spirits really does add a richness to the experience our children and staff have.”
