Jeremy Corbyn stumbles over the question regarding the cost of childcare
When asked during a radio interview about the cost of childcare Jeremy Corbyn had to look on his iPad for the answer, this question comes after Labour promises to extend the 30hrs free childcare entitlement to all two to four-year-olds.
With talks about the cost being in the region of £4.8bn a year, many people are again wondering how this will be funded?
As Jeremy apologised for stumbling upon the cost and not knowing the actually figure he did, however, make reference to the commitment to early education
Other promises made by the Labour party involve extending childcare provision to provide more places as well as training staff and pushing nurseries to employ a graduate led workforce. Labour has pledged to put £2.7bn of capital spending towards these other promises.
As the Conservative party made a promise in the last election to provide 30hrs free childcare to working parents with children aged 3 to 4 years old, this has however seen a struggle in a number of childcare places available and many nurseries across the country have had to close due to financial difficulties.
With political parties making all sorts of promises around extending childcare, entitlement to further families, where is the support for childcare providers? if we are not careful there won’t be the childminders, preschools and nurseries for parents to send their children to.
