A new and fairer system for providing early years services in Birmingham

Birmingham City Council to launch a new and fairer system for providing early years services

A new consultation from Birmingham City Council is being launched regarding a new and fairer system for providing early years services. Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) has been successful in its bid to deliver the new Early Years Hub, they will deliver the service in partnership with Barnardo’s, Spurgeon’s Children’s Charity (Spurgeon’s), St Paul’s Community Development Trust and the Springfield Project. The new system will be commissioned by Birmingham City Council

Many parents have expressed that they find the current system confusing and difficult, therefore this new system is aimed at reducing this.  It will bring agencies together such as the health visiting service and the children’s early years service, this will create early years hubs. Within these hubs, there will be other community services for families to access.

The new system will offer:

  • support children to lead healthy lifestyles with advice on healthy diet and staying active
  • ensure children develop well physically, emotionally and socially
  • help keep children safe
  • advise families on parenting and emotional wellbeing and offer extra family support when situations are challenging.
  • support communities to develop accessible services that families really want by creating opportunities to listen to local people and develop new services together

It is hoped the new system will provide a far more integrated service.
