Parents to increase their working hours due to 30hrs free childcare

Parents to increase their working hours once 30hrs free childcare is introduced

It is likely that parents of preschool children are to increase their working hours once the 30hrs free children scheme is introduced in septemeber. As parents are now able to see if they are eligible this will determine whether more parents will be accessing the free childcare entitlement.

Doubling the free childcare entitlement is set to help working families with the help of childcare costs, however, it is causing financial problems for childcare providers, with funding rates being short of what it actually costs to offer the scheme.

With a further 15hours of childcare available, this may mean that parents are able to increase their working hours or study to help them progress further in their careers.

It is, however, important that Government portrays this scheme correctly, with many parents thinking they will be receiving 30hrs of free childcare when in fact this is not true. Many childcare providers will be looking closely at how best to offer the scheme whilst staying sustainable. Increase in fees and charging for additional services is the option many providers are leaning towards, therefore this scheme will not be free at the point of delivery.
