Sesame Street Characters support refugee children

Early Education for refugee children is being delivered by the TV Sesame Street Characters

The famous TV characters from Sesame Street have joined with the International Rescue Committee to deliver early education and emotional support for refugee children in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria

Many people will recognise the Sesame Street Characters from the famous TV programme. Instead of teaching the children the alphabet and counting they are now going to help refugee children who have been suffered horrific trauma.

Together the team will deliver specific material that will help both the refugee children and their families; the educational material will be tailored to meet the needs of the children, it will be specifically put together to help children who have suffered the trauma of war and displacement. The tailored material will also be in printed and digital form; this will be distributed to schools, community centres and health clinics in the areas of Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria.

Content will be taken from  Sesame Workshop’s existing Jordanian, Egyptian and Gulf programmes; this will ensure it is culturally appropriate for refugee children.
