Using story sacks in the Early Years

Sharing story sacks with children offers a multi sensory approach to the reading process, it will also help develop their early literacy skills. A story sack is a large cotton bag containing a book and props to support the story, depending on the sizes of the props a story sack can be presented in a wicker basket.

Story sacks can be for any age group and practitioners need to remember that young children have little attention span, therefore short stories and more props are more successful with children of this age group.

A short presentation has been created to explain the benefits of using story sacks in the Early Years.
