Toddlers Getting Creative At Nursery

Why not try this creative activity with your toddlers

Painting ice cubes

Would you ever of thought of putting ice cubes in a #tuffspot tray and letting the children paint them. This simple activity is a great activity for all ages of children, it can develop children’s gross motor skills whilst learning about colour mixing.

Think about how you display this activity, an easy option is using a #tuffspot tray on the floor, this will allow children to easily access the activity. Children will be very eager to join in and get painting, why not take this opportunity to introduce some simple science concepts eg what does ice melt into?

As the colours start to run into one another talk to the children about colour mixing and ask them if they know what happens when yellow is mixed with red. These simple questions will create discussions and help the children learn more about colour mixing.

Painting ice cubes different colours

This large scale activity enables children to group together with their peers, developing their personal, social and emotional development. Offering creative activities can build on many areas of children’s development whilst also helping them to develop new skills.

Make sure you have your post-it notes nearby to note down any language used or to freely make some observations. As the children are painting the ice cubes think about how else you extend this activity further.
