Any helpful tips for a working interview for an early years TA in a school?

Question –

Q – I have an interview for a early years teaching assistant position in a primary school. Part of the interview process is too carry out a teaching task (anything of my choosing) for 6 year 1 children. I have always previously worked within pre schools so any helpful tips and advice would be fantastic!”

A – “My son is in year 1 at the moment and last week he thoroughly enjoyed a task all about ‘bossy verbs’ he enjoyed telling me all about it and it was a fun learning exercise too and was linked to following and creating instructions for playing a game”

A – “A phonics game, make some simple words then make some nonsense words then draw a bin ask them to flip over the words read it decide if it’s a real word or not! I’m a TA in yr 1 and it’s one of our kids favourite games.”

A – “A rhyming soup game, put words in a pot and when they choose one make up a rhyming sentence using it.”

A – “Twinkl : it’s an online learning resource for teachers and teaching assistants – go there and browse year 1 activities and get some inspiration”

A – “You could do a game of treasure or trash made up words go in that pile and real words go in the treasure”

A – “Matching the correct quantity to the correct number? Make it interesting by using pictures of some sort the children are likely to be interested in”

A – “Build it around a play experience, not something formal. 6x primary 1s mostly want to play. So if you can plan well, and organise interesting resources for them to explore with you just need to sit back and be in the background to extend any learning you see. So your experience should include literacy, numeracy and health and well being.

Language – talk about what you are doing, while The activity is taking place and afterwards. Numeracy – do you have to count resources, talk about bigger or smaller, heavier or lighter.  Health and well being – is everyone being included, a chance to socialise with peers and learn from each other.”
